Audition Day

Taking place over the course of a full day, our drama school auditions are designed to explore an applicants’ performance of text, their vocal and physical suitability and their individual drive to train professionally. Our auditions are also designed to give each applicant opportunity to ensure that Fourth Monkey will offer the most suitable approach to professional actor training for them.

At a Fourth Monkey audition, you will experience workshops in Act. Make. Move. Collaborate. Alongside numerous opportunities to speak with staff, students and alumni about Fourth Monkey and our training.

There will be a tour of the venue and facilities, plenty of opportunities to ask any questions that you may have with one of our Students or Alumni about our drama school, approach to actor training and the Fourth Monkey student experience.

ALL APPLICANTS ARE ASKED TO PREPARE AND PERFORM TWO SHORT AUDITION SPEECHES, EACH LASTING NO LONGER THAN TWO MINUTES:

  • ONE CLASSICAL SPEECH (SHAKESPEARE OR SIMILAR ELIZABETHAN-ERA WRITER)
  • ONE CONTEMPORARY SPEECH

Applicants will then perform their chosen monologues to the panel and re-work at least one of their chosen speeches, working one-on-one with the panel member. This is intended to enable us to play with the speech and to further explore the choices an applicant has made, as well as give an insight into who they are as an actor and performer.

Each applicant will then have a one-on-one interview with a member of the audition panel, discuss their application and have a further opportunity to ask any questions about Fourth Monkey.

Offer to Study

Our auditions see beyond the traditional conservatoire Drama School criteria. We find interest and curiosity in those applicants who don’t conform to traditional expectations.

A Fourth Monkey student is someone who demonstrates potential, drive and a passion for learning and play. They are invested and exciting, with the potential to grow and benefit from our training. A successful applicant is not defined by what they can or cannot do, but what they have the potential to do.

Fourth Monkey take considered and balanced risks on potential, but only on those who demonstrate the drive and passion to succeed and a connection to the training we offer. They can often be actors or any combination of performer, such as dancer, musician or artist. If invested and presenting the right attitude and aptitude to train – the person can override perceived talent and show they are a fit for Fourth Monkey. We only make offers to those individuals we feel can confidently begin a course with Fourth Monkey with an expectation to develop during the training, succeed in their training goals, and to achieve a HE qualification.
